Atlantans Keep Israelis safe
Shalom from Israel (24 Feb 2008)
Yesterday I was in Tel Aviv - I love the bustle of the city, the hum of life as I walk down Dizengoff Street window shopping. I walked over to the sea and watched life in Israel at its best.
Today I went to Sderot. In four hours there were 15 Kassams. Fifteen times that the citizens of Sderot had 20 seconds to drop what they were doing and run to hide. Fifteen times that the children had to leave their classrooms and run to the shelters. When you talk with the kids, they can't even look you in the eye - their eyes are constantly scanning the horizon looking for the nearest places to hide.
In my role as the 2008 Community Campaign Chair, I am always asking "what more can we do that we haven't done before?" As a member of our worldwide Jewish community, I know that whatever it is that we do, we must do it today. Tomorrow may be too late.
Thank you for all that you continue to do for our Jewish community - in Atlanta, Israel, and around the world.
