Ways To Get Involved

YLC of Federation offers many opportunities for young professionals and families with young children to get involved with the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta. You can come to our wide variety of events, take part in a Federation-sponsored mission trip, plan an event, or join a committee. Whatever your interests are, we have something for you!

PJ Library Parent Ambassador

Help us spread the news about The PJ Library to Jewish families in your community by being a PJ Library Parent Ambassador. We will give you the materials you need to host a PJ Library “Show and Tell” where you “Show” off your PJ Library books and “Tell” your friends how to sign up! Email Lindsey Chapkin to learn more. Social Action Projects

Every year, YLC of Federation takes part in quarterly hands-on volunteer projects. Past projects include sorting food at the Atlanta Community Food Bank, playing bingo with the residents of the William Breman Jewish Home, and tree planting with members of the JF&CS Pal Program. All of the volunteer projects are with Federation affiliate agencies or partners, and give you an opportunity to see firsthand where Federation dollars go. Volunteer at Events

Putting on events requires help from many people, and YLC is always looking for volunteers to assist with tasks prior to and during events. Volunteers are needed for set up, registration, greeting attendees, and passing out information.

Host Committee

Members of a host committee help with the recruitment for a large event, as well as aid with various volunteer activities prior to and during the event. Each YLC of Federation event has a distinct host committee, typically comprised of 30 to 70 individuals. The Host Committee’s main responsibilities include recruiting attendees for the event through phone calls, emails, and distributing invitations. As well, they are often needed to assist throughout the event in capacities such as greeting, handing out favors, helping with registration, and more. The Host Committee is a manageable time commitment and is a great first step if you’re interested in becoming more involved.

Join a Committee

YLC of Federation’s Executive Committee has four divisions: Jewish Learning, Social Outreach, Education, and Marketing.

  • The Jewish Learning team is looking for a committee to develop creative ways to infuse events with an aspect of Judaism, to think of programs that teach elements of Judaism that young professionals or families with young children will enjoy, and to generate resources for the public about how to get involved Jewishly.
  • The Social Outreach team plans social events, including the Signature Event, the Cultural Event, and Israeli Independence Day Event. Each event requires volunteers, a host committee, and event chairs.
  • The Education team plans quarterly educational programs and looks to a committee to help implement the programs. A committee’s responsibilities include thinking of an event concept, connecting the event to the mission of Federation, and to engage its constituents.

Go on a Mission Trip

Each year, YLC of Federation takes part in the UJC National Young Leadership Conference. Jews in their 20s and 30s, from federations across North America, come together to make a difference. This “conference with a mission” will include community service, networking and learning opportunities about the good that United Jewish Communities (UJC) and your local federation has had throughout the world. Contact YLC@jfga.org for more information.
