The Future of Giving

"We are blessed," says Eileen Snow Price, a member of the steering committee for a unique opportunity being offered by the Endowment Department of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta. Eileen, along with Matt Brill and Bryan Lewis, is co-chairing an education series for the "next generation" of benefactors for our community. These future philanthropists understand that though they may be young, they need to be prepared for the duties that come with the "blessing" of responsibility. Eileen acknowledges that her parents' foresight in establishing a charitable fund is what enables her to participate in tikkun olam, or "repair of the world." She wants to learn how the decisions she will make about giving can be both mindful of her parents' charitable mission and her own philanthropic values.

The first of five programs will begin with special guest Sharna Goldseker, Director of Special Projects at the Andrea and Charles Bronfman Philanthropies in New York. Sharna will help the young philanthropists explore the dynamics between their personal values and those of their families. Future sessions will work to strengthen collaboration among the participants so that they can become more effective in making informed charitable decisions. "Ultimately," says Noah Levine, Federation's Associate Executive Director, "these young people will develop a tradition of giving that they will pass on to their own children and even, one day, grandchildren. Truly, this is dor l'dor – generation to generation."

The series is designed for those 22 to 35 years of age, with some Atlanta connection, whose families have established a private foundation, a supporting foundation or a significant philanthropic fund. There will be no cost to attend. For further information, contact Noah Levine at (404) 870-1604 or nlevine@jfga.org.
