Daniel Bressler and Yoni Gorlin were selected to present their science fair project, Comparative Efficiency of Mobile & Stationary Solar Panels, at The Georgia Junior Science & Humanities Symposium (GJSHS) at The University of Georgia (UGA) in February. GJSHS is administered through the Office of Academic Special Programs in cooperation with U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force research programs. One hundred high school students are chosen for this prestigious program. This was the first year in the program's history that eighth graders were allowed to present, and Yoni and Daniel were the only eighth graders chosen! They are already anticipating an invitation for next year with the hopes of receiving a scholarship award for high school students who compete at the national level.
GHA students also participated in Pentel's 33rd International Children's Art Exhibition. The original artwork is displayed in children's hospitals around the world. The following students submitted work this year: Second graders Michal Ariela Schorsch and Jamie Heidt; third graders Julie Buchsbaum, Lindsey Cohen, Cheyenne Welsch, Rachel Kleiman and Malke Field-Krombach; fourth grader Stefanie Adler; fifth grader Perrin Shapiro; sixth grader Esther Sokolow; and seventh grader Hannah Goodman.
On April 28, in observance of Yom Hashoah, Greenfield Hebrew Academy middle school students Ethan Berman, Adina Herman, Robyn Kalwerisky, Sarah Kaplan, Matthew Killip, Barry Langer, Seth Langer and Joshua Slovin performed the play, The Survivor, by Susan Nanus. The Survivor is a story of eight friends, fighting with courage and determination to stay alive in the Warsaw Ghetto, but only one lives to tell their story. The play presented the experiences of the Holocaust in terms understandable for youngsters.
The Greenfield Hebrew Academy is one of Federation's local beneficiary agencies, and received an allocation of $454,450 in FY03.
