Yom Ha'Atzmaut 5763 marks the 55th anniversary of Israel's independence. On Wednesday, May 7, 2003, the Jewish community is invited to come together, adorned in blue and white, to celebrate and to display their support for the people of Israel amidst a time of increased turbulence in the Middle East and the world.
This annual celebration will be held at the Marcus Jewish Community Center at Zaban Park beginning at 6:30pm. Israeli music, featuring a member from the popular Shalom Band, Zohar Shachar, as well as local favorite, The Paz Family Band, will highlight the program. A student-led community sing-a-long and a community parade will be vivid expressions of solidarity. The Sophie Hirsh Sirochi Jewish Discovery Museum will be open, and there will be many exciting opportunities for family fun. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase.
The celebration is free and open to people of all ages. It is sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, and the Consulate General of Israel for the Southeast.
Event chairman Atsmon Paz noted, "After two and a half years of extensive terror against the people of Israel and the hard economic reality that affects all Israelis...showing solidarity and support by the Jewish community in Atlanta should be our number one priority."
