Super Sunday 2004 – Answering the Call

Congratulations to all who participated during Super Sunday 2004. On January 25, more than 400 volunteers came together at the Selig Center, the North Metro office of Merrill Lynch, raising $700,186 for the 2004 Campaign for Community Needs.

Co-chaired by Gail Cohn, Leah Romberg Harrison and Bruce Weinstein, this year's Super Sunday was one of the most successful ever, in terms of dollars raised. "Super Sunday was an incredible effort from all the volunteers and Federation staff," said Cohn. "There would have been no way to reach as many donors as we did without the hundreds of people who made it their mission to close as many pledges as possible."

The efforts were also aided by a higher power. "We definitely got an assist from the weather man. The cold and rain kept people at home to answer their phones," said Weinstein. "Super Sunday gave new meaning to the phrase ‘we needed the rain.'"

The North Metro location, introduced last year, recorded 278 pledges totaling more than $24,000, while the Selig Center volunteers raised more than $667,000 from 1,978 donors. Last year, volunteers raised $392,668 on Super Sunday.

This year also marked the inaugural Woman's Division East Cobb telethon. Female residents of East Cobb and a group of new Americans met at the East Cobb ReMax Communities office in Marietta on January 21 to call other people in the area. They raised $8,799 from 136 donors.

Campaign success also is measured in "card-for-card" increases. This year, donors raised their gifts on average by 10.65 percent. "We are delighted with the outcome of Super Sunday," said Harrison. "Volunteers took in 2,392 pledges, including 322 new gifts."

The campaign received an extra boost from the Lynne and Howard Halpern Matching Grant, that matches increases from donors who gave at least $100 in 2003, and more than 10 percent above that amount in 2004. The Halpern Grant raised an additional $56,000 through 490 matches.

Thank you to all donors and volunteers for "Answering the Call" and making this a truly Super Sunday. For further information about the Halpern Grant or the 2004 Campaign for Community Needs, contact Randy Gorod at (404) 870-7690.
