MJCCA and Federation team up with "Jewish Connections"

Receiving Mutual of America's Partnership Award is among the most prestigious honors a nonprofit agency can be given. Home But Not Alone (HBNA) – a unique housing program administered by the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA) – was granted this award in recognition of HBNA's partnership with AID Atlanta.

HBNA pairs homeowners with an extra room, with tenants seeking affordable housing, one or both of whom live with HIV/AIDS. This program provides a safe, affordable living option as well as the benefit of companionship, stability and the comfort of living with a compatible person.

The partnership between HBNA and AID

This partnership exemplifies the goal of the MJCCA to enhance the Atlanta community by providing a myriad of programs, activities and social services. The Partnership Award was presented at a gala dinner in New York City in November 2003. In addition to HBNA's award, Housemate Match, a Shared Housing program of the MJCCA, received a Proclamation from DeKalb County on February 10, 2004. Chief Executive Officer, Vernon Jones, explained that he and the Board of Commissioners of DeKalb County proclaim 20-year achievements of affordable housing opportunities to senior citizens of DeKalb County, who are able to remain in their home by locating compatible tenants. Housemate Match serves the elderly and younger professionals or students interested in a safe and secure place to live. The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta is a beneficiary agency of JFGA, and received $1,432,842 in FY04.
