JF&CS Kicks Off Independence Day Events with Wine Tasting

April marks the beginning of the Independence Day events and parties, held annually to benefit the Zimmerman-Horowitz Independent Living Program (ZH ILP). This year, events range from the elegant wine tasting "ExtravaGrand," to the "Bark in the Park" dog walk, to "Arts for Independence," an artist market with more than 70 artists, as well as children's activities, food and music. While all the events are unique, they have one common factor – all are a fun way to support an incredible program.

The ZH ILP offers supported living arrangements to more than 50 clients. Participants live in homes with roommates of their choice, and work with consultants and client services managers on all sorts of life skills. Job coaches help place clients in positions best suited for them, while some clients participate in day programs. The CREW (Creative, Responsible, Employees at Work) is a special project of Jewish Family & Career Services own day program. C.R.E.W members spend two-to-three days-a-week on job assignments, such as raking leaves, working in a co-op thrift store, or processing mailings at JF&CS' Stars@Work center. Off days are spent in enrichment programs like yoga, karate and hygiene.

Proceeds from the Independence Day events go directly toward the services of the ZH ILP. For more information on these events, or to volunteer or host an event, contact Susan Metz at (770) 677-9329 or email her at smetz@jfcs-atlant.org.

Jewish Family & Career Services is one of Federation's local beneficiary agencies, and received an allocation of $1,643,916 in FY04.
